German singer-songwriter Reinhard Mey released his 30th studio album, ‘Schatzhauser’, in September. The 83-year-old artist utilized a minimalist production style featuring only his voice and a guitar, describing the work as a return to his musical roots. The album includes a re-recording of his 1970 song ‘In meinem Garten’ and explores themes such as travel, life experiences, and mortality. Following its release, ‘Schatzhauser’ reached number one on the Official German Album Charts. Charts during its first week. This achievement makes Mey the oldest national artist to reach the top position in Germany and marks the fifth time in his nearly 60-year career that he has topped the charts. Mey’s career began in the late 1960s, including a period performing in France as ‘Frédérik Mey’. He previously set a record when ‘In meinem Garten’ entered the charts 55 years after its initial release following a mention in a Netflix documentary. With this latest success, he has surpassed several contemporary domestic and international artists in chart performance.
