Following the cinematic release of the comedy film ‘The Invite’, directed by Olivia Wilde, the production has garnered significant critical and audience attention. During promotional interviews, Wilde and co-star Seth Rogen discussed the film’s themes, advising couples to avoid letting “minor irritations” or trivial household problems escalate into relationship conflicts. Wilde noted that her experience filming the project was exhausting as her character felt “permanently on edge.” Critics have since praised the film—an adaptation of Cesc Gay’s ‘Sentimental’—as a “hilarious tearjerker” and a “genuinely touching and funny dramedy.” Set in San Francisco, the narrative explores marriage crises and sexual identity through a dinner party involving Wilde, Rogen, Penelope Cruz, and Edward Norton. The film is noted for its ability to balance awkward humor with serious emotional themes regarding modern relationships. To facilitate spontaneous discoveries, the production utilized an unconventional approach where the cast rehearsed together for two weeks and filmed the story in chronological order. Following a screening at the Locarno Film Festival, the film is expanding its international presence. In Italy, titled ‘The Invite – Il piacere è tutto nostro’, the movie is scheduled for previews in Bologna on September 1 and 2 at Pop Up Cinema Jolly 4K, Arena Puccini, and The Space Cinema Bologna. These screenings will offer both subtitled and dubbed versions ahead of a wide Italian theatrical release on September 16.
