Release of Arthur Harari film L'Inconnue

The psychological thriller ‘L’Inconnue’, directed by Arthur Harari, is scheduled for theatrical release on August 26, 2026. Adapted from the graphic novel ‘Le Cas David Zimmerman’, the film features Léa Seydoux and Niels Schneider in a story involving a radical body-swap phenomenon between a photographer and a mysterious woman.

Actor Niels Schneider has described the role as a “unique professional challenge,” noting the character’s transition from a 40-year-old man to a 19-year-old woman. In addition to this film, Schneider is set to star in the Disney+ mini-series ‘Cancel’, created by Camille de Castelnau.

Following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the film explores a complex metaphysical concept where the protagonist, David Zimmerman, undergoes a sudden identity shift after a sexual encounter with a woman named Eva. Rather than a simple two-person exchange, the plot involves a chain of consciousness transfers; the protagonist eventually discovers that a third individual, Malia, is inhabiting his original body.

Critical reception has been mixed. While some reviewers have praised the performances of Seydoux and Schneider and described the film as a “striking reflection on identity,” others have criticized the narrative for being “vague or lacking in depth.” Harari, previously known for ‘Anatomie d’une chute’, employs a gritty, realistic aesthetic to ground the film’s fantastic elements.
