The thriller film ‘A Talent for Murder’, directed by Anton Corbijn, is an adaptation of Joanna Murray-Smith’s play ‘Switzerland’. The story follows Edward Ridgeway (Alden Ehrenreich), a publisher’s emissary sent to a Swiss village to persuade the reclusive author Patricia Highsmith (Helen Mirren) to write a final installment of her Ripley anthology. The plot involves Highsmith challenging Ridgeway to devise a fictional murder that could be committed without detection, causing reality and fiction to blur. Helen Mirren has described the role as one of her most challenging due to the differences between her personality and Highsmith’s abrasive nature. The film also stars Olivia Cooke and Juliet Stevenson. Bleecker Street and LD Entertainment have scheduled the theatrical release for October 23, 2026. Ahead of this release, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. The production depicts Highsmith living a reclusive life at the foot of the Swiss Alps, surrounded by books and antique weapons.
