The biographical film ‘Mniej obcy’, directed by Kristoffer Rus, premiered on Netflix, exploring the life and musical journey of Jan Borysewicz, the leader of the Polish rock band Lady Pank. The film portrays Borysewicz’s upbringing in Wrocław, his relationship with his brother Andrzej, and his rise to fame through bands such as Budka Suflera and Lady Pank. Following its release, the film reached the number one spot on Netflix in Poland, maintaining the top position for three consecutive days from October 8 to October 10, 2026. While achieving domestic success, the production has not yet entered the top ten rankings in other countries. The film, which previously won an award for best visual effects at the 51st Gdynia Film Festival, depicts the intersection of artistic ambition and the social realities of the Polish People's Republic. Lead actor Mikołaj Bukrewicz made his acting debut in the role of Borysewicz. A guitarist known for online covers, Bukrewicz was selected by Rus for his ability to play the instrument authentically. Based on Borysewicz’s autobiographical book, the narrative also touches upon personal family challenges, including his mother’s battle with multiple sclerosis and his supportive relationship with his transgender grandson, Aleks.
