The upcoming Nippon TV drama ‘Ore-tachi no Hakone Ekiden’, based on a novel by Jun Ikeido, is preparing for its October 10 premiere. The series stars Yo Oizumi as a television producer and Tomohisa Yamashita as a university track coach, focusing on the struggles of a sports broadcasting crew and an athletics team. The narrative follows two parallel tracks: the challenges faced by the Meisei Gakuin University track and field club as they attempt to qualify for the Hakone Ekiden, and the behind-the-scenes difficulties of the television crew broadcasting the event. The premiere episode is scheduled for an extended 40-minute broadcast. The cast also includes Ito Sairi as center director Natsuki Miyamoto. The story is expected to highlight the tension between traditional broadcasting values and the pressure to achieve high viewership ratings. To promote the series, the streaming service TVer launched an actor special featuring approximately 25 works from several prominent Japanese actors, including Oizumi. Additionally, a large-scale advertising campaign has launched on the JR Yamanote Line. From October 1 to 15, an entire 11-car E235 series train will be fully wrapped in drama-themed visuals, including posters, digital signage, and special promotional videos. Musician Keisuke Kuata has been announced as the performer of the drama’s theme song. The song, which is in final recording stages, was requested by Oizumi and is intended to capture the essence of the Hakone Ekiden relay race runners.
