The Korean melodrama “Between Steps” is scheduled to premiere on October 5. Directed by the late Ahn Pan Seok, known for “Something in the Rain” and “One Spring Night”, the 12-part romance series stars Choo Young Woo as Park Min Jae, a former swimmer and robotics doctoral candidate who lost his right leg to illness, and Kim So Hyun as Im Yoo Jin, a graduate student seeking a new direction in life. While initial reports indicated the series would premiere on Disney+, subsequent details specify a broadcast on ENA at 10 PM KST, with streaming availability on Genie TV and Disney+ in South Korea. A preview released by ENA depicts the first meeting between the leads, in which Park assists Im after she scrapes her knee while running for a bus. In the scene, Park provides water and a handkerchief and modifies her shoes to ensure her gait is balanced for proper walking. Fans have expressed high anticipation for the series due to the lead actors and the emotional weight of the late director’s involvement. Following the director’s passing on August 12, 2026, due to a brain hemorrhage, the series serves as his final work. Lead actress Kim So-hyun shared tributes to Ahn on social media, reflecting on her time filming the production. While promotional stills initially focused on the characters’ first encounter, newer images suggest a shift in their relationship, depicting a tense interaction in front of a police station. The production team describes the series as a story of young people navigating “relatable yearnings.” Following its premiere, the series has seen an increase in viewership. According to Nielsen Korea, the second episode aired on ENA recorded a national average rating of 2.4%, rising from a 1.8% average during the premiere.
