A documentary titled ‘MKO’, produced by filmmaker Ose Oyamendan, chronicles the life of Moshood ‘MKO’ Abiola and the political impact of the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election. The film details the subsequent political struggles and the circumstances of Abiola’s death in detention in 1998, featuring archival footage and accounts from figures such as Ibrahim Babangida, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Olusegun Obasanjo, Wole Soyinka, and Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe. On October 1, coinciding with Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day, President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu attended the national premiere at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos. The event was also attended by high-ranking officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. This premiere follows an international screening at the Sheffield DocFest in the United Kingdom and a preview event in Washington, D.C. A nationwide cinema release in Nigeria was scheduled for October 2.
