Relief efforts following La Guaira earthquakes
Overview
Following two devastating earthquakes in La Guaira on June 24, which resulted in over 6,500 deaths, various musical initiatives have been organized to support affected communities.
In early October, the European Union hosted the fourth Eurovenezolano Jazz Festival in La Guaira. EU Ambassador Gilles Bertrand described the event as a “hug to the communities of La Guaira,” intended to support the mourning and reinvention process of those impacted. The festival featured international artists from the Netherlands, Germany, and Portugal performing alongside Venezuelan musicians.
Further relief efforts include the upcoming ‘La Rumba del Año’ charity concert scheduled for December 17 in Valencia. This event aims to raise funds specifically to provide Christmas gifts for children affected by the earthquakes.
