Religious activities and ceremonies in Vietnam
Overview
Religious communities in Vietnam have continued to conduct various ceremonies and mark significant milestones. In Dak Lak province, the Ban Me Thuot Diocese celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Buon Trap area and officially established the Ha Trung Parish, with Father Phero Tran Hien appointed as the first Parish Priest. Other activities included priest training programs in several dioceses and pastoral visits to provide support following local incidents. Additionally, Buddhist ceremonies were held at the Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi to mark the conclusion of a three-month summer retreat, while the Dong Du Parish in Chuc Ly held a thanksgiving Mass to consecrate a new pastoral house completed through community contributions. In late August 2026, Buddhist monks and nuns at the Tùng lâm Quán Sứ training center performed the Tự tứ ceremony, marking the conclusion of the three-month An cư kiết hạ (Rainy Season Retreat). The ceremony was presided over by Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu and attended by high-ranking members of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha. Catholic communities also held several rites. At Đông Lâm Parish, Archbishop Giuse Đặng Đức Ngân of the Huế Archdiocese officially installed Father Gioakim Trần Ngọc Chương as the new Parish Priest. In Thanh Dã, the parish celebrated the feast of Saint Augustine and inaugurated a new executive board for the young family choir. Other local events included the feast of Saint Monica at Châu Sơn Parish and a First Holy Communion ceremony for 19 children at Trung Trí Parish. Further ceremonies took place in late August. At Thong Nhat Parish, Father Chu Quang Hoa presided over a solemn Mass on August 28 to honor the feast of Saint John the Baptist, focusing on the virtues of the patron saint of Eucharistic Youth Movement leaders.
