The 20th edition of RemTech Expo has opened in Ferrara, functioning serving as an international technological hub for environmental remediation, land regeneration, and territorial protection. The event involves approximately 300 companies, 500 experts, and an expected 10,000 visitors. Key participants include the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and the Italian Armed Forces. Discussions have expanded to address critical issues such as climate change, hydrogeological instability, and strategic raw materials. The program includes international initiatives like the Sustainathon—a climate bilateral between Italy and Central America—and Africa Days focused on critical raw materials. Roberto Troncarelli, president of the National Council of Geologists, has called for a cultural shift toward “structural rather than emergency-based funding” to manage seismic and hydraulic threats. Additionally, Silvia Paparella, general manager of RemTech Expo, emphasized the role of public-private partnerships in developing expertise and trust over trust. During the past two decades. event, various Italian waste management consortia, including Conai, Conoe, Conou, and others, met to discuss the evolution of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) models and circular economy challenges. Riccardo Piunti, president of Conou, noted a common drive among consortia to improve waste recovery through shared EPR elements like guidance functions and quality standards. Piunti specifically highlighted the success of the used mineral oils sector, attributing its global leadership to the presence of a single, independent consortium that acts much like a “traffic warden” to ensure industry compliance and quality standards.
