Romania's energy and industrial sectors are experiencing significant shifts. In the industrial sector, Renault Group CEO François Provost has issued warnings regarding the competitiveness of Dacia's manufacturing operations in Mioveni. He stated that current statistics for the plant are concerning and that the facility must urgently improve its standing within the group. To address these challenges, Provost is calling for a long-term agreement between plant management and labor unions to reduce production costs per vehicle by a minimum of 20%, with an ultimate target of 30%. He clarified that these measures are not intended to reduce existing salaries, but rather to implement more flexible wage negotiations and organizational structures. Additionally, the Renault Group is seeking support from Romanian authorities to improve industrial conditions, specifically regarding electricity pricing. Following these competitiveness concerns, Dacia has implemented production reductions at the Mioveni plant to align manufacturing output with current order volumes. The company reported production halts on October 9 and 12, 2026, specifically affecting the Duster and Bigster SUV models. Union representatives noted that daily production capacity declined from approximately 1,160 vehicles in July to roughly 1,060 vehicles in early October, an 8.6% decrease. Workers not assigned to active lines are to remain home with their collective bargaining agreement pay rights preserved. Energy infrastructure developments continue to progress. The Mintia power plant project, led by Mass Global Energy Rom, has successfully ignited its first gas turbine. This private investment, exceeding 1.2 billion euros, aims for an installed capacity of 1,700 MW to bolster national energy security. Additionally, R. Power has completed the installation of a 127 MW/254 MWh battery storage system in Scornicești. Renewable energy and gas infrastructure projects also remain active. Greenvolt Power has secured 284 million euros for a 253.1 MW wind project in Gurbănești, and Transgaz has initiated an 81.4 million lei procurement for gas pipeline expansion in Botoșani. On a regional level, Moldova's Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu continues to emphasize the necessity of infrastructure investment and electrical interconnections with Romania to achieve energy independence.
