The Administrative Court of Rennes has issued several distinct rulings involving various legal disputes in the Brittany region. In a tax-related matter, the court fined a taxpayer 500 euros after determining that a legal challenge regarding 2023 VAT adjustments was “manifestly written using an artificial intelligence tool.” The judge ruled the recourse was abusive and noted that the taxpayer failed to submit a mandatory preliminary claim, while the AI-assisted arguments were “insufficiently precise” for a proper assessment. The court warned that while AI tools may appear convincing, they can contain “hollow or erroneous arguments.” In separate regional cases, the court annulled the dismissal of the director of the Fonds régional d’art contemporain (Frac) Bretagne. Although the director was dismissed following investigations into allegations of sexual and gender-based violence, judges ruled that the board of directors failed to sufficiently justify the decision or clarify divergent findings between reports. Additionally, the court rejected an urgent request from residents in Paimpol seeking to stop the felling of trees for a 20 million euro urban rehabilitation project. The ruling allows the project to continue, provided that seasonal wildlife protections and compensatory measures are maintained.
