The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Pakistan has undergone administrative and structural developments. Initially, the agency and the Islamabad Police extended recruitment deadlines for various operational, technical, and administrative roles, including Sub-Inspectors, Constables, and Technical Assistants. Following these recruitment efforts, proposals were submitted to the Ministry of Interior to restructure the NCCIA by rebranding it as the ‘Cyber Police’. The proposed plan involves establishing cyber police stations in every district of Pakistan, converting existing NCCIA buildings into these stations, and adjusting leadership roles to include Station House Officers (SHOs) and officers ranked as SP or DSP. In recent operations, the NCCIA intensified its crackdown on illegal call centres. In Lahore, authorities arrested 36 suspects during raids in Faisal Town and Johar Town. The group allegedly used dial-up software to defraud foreign nationals, leading to the seizure of computers, laptops, mobile phones, and vehicles suspected to have been purchased with criminal proceeds. Expanding this crackdown, the NCCIA recently arrested 39 suspects in Lahore linked to two distinct fraudulent schemes. One syndicate, operating as ‘Talk Master (Pvt) Ltd’, allegedly used fake loan applications—including Aghar, Gro Fund, and James Fund—to access private data and employ artificial intelligence to create fake obscene images for blackmailing borrowers. A second group, masquerading as a medical billing service named ‘MediConvox’, targeted international citizens through a fraudulent Canada-related mobility campaign to solicit financial and credit card information. Authorities seized various digital devices and vehicles during these raids. To bolster its investigative capacity and manage thousands of public complaints regarding online fraud and blackmail, the NCCIA has requested the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to provide 200 police officers on deputation. This formal request to the KP chief secretary and inspector general of police seeks various ranks, including 20 deputy superintendents of police, inspectors, and constables.
