A helicopter crash in the mountainous Urubici region of Santa Catarina, Brazil, resulted in the deaths of five people on September 21. Among the fatalities was the 59-year-old Brazilian sertanejo singer Rick Sollo, of the duo Rick & Renner. Other victims included businessman Bruno Avelar, videomaker Paulo Soares, pilot Antônio Roberto Nóbrega de Araújo, and co-pilot Leopoldo de Barros Teixeira. Investigations by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa), and the Civil Police are ongoing. The FAB reported that the Bell 430 helicopter was in uncontrolled airspace at the time of the crash. While preliminary findings pointed to unfavorable weather, including heavy rain and low visibility, reports specify that heavy fog and winds reaching 80 km/h were significant factors. Witnesses reported the aircraft appeared disoriented and was flying at low altitude in heavy fog and high winds before disappearing into the clouds. There are also indications that the aircraft, valued at approximately R$ 10 million, may have lacked certain instruments required for flight under such adverse meteorological conditions. An airport operator in Lages reported warning the crew about deteriorating weather hours before the flight. The helicopter was scheduled to stop in Lages for refueling before continuing to São Joaquim. Authorities are utilizing 3D scanning technology to analyze the crash site, and a recovered black box has been sent to Brasília for analysis. The incident has drawn significant attention from the Brazilian music community. Following the singer’s funeral in Sorocaba, Renner has received support from his wife, Thereza Oberger. Singer Bruno, of the duo Bruno & Marrone, reported a spontaneous event in which a radio in his kitchen began playing music by the duo Rick & Renner, which he interpreted as a spiritual message.
