Rio Branco public transportation system renewal

Rio Branco is undergoing a transition in its municipal public transportation system, involving the renewal of its vehicle fleet and a change in operational management.

Initially, Mayor Alysson Bestene inspected bus manufacturing in São Paulo to oversee the production of new vehicles intended to improve the quality, safety, and comfort of the city’s transit service.

Following this, COM Rio Branco announced various job openings for roles including drivers, mechanics, and administrative staff to support the new phase of operations. The transition involves JTP Transportes, with plans to utilize a fleet of 120 buses. The new system is expected to incorporate electronic ticketing and GPS monitoring.

COM Rio Branco, which manages over 150,000 daily passengers in other operations, confirmed that 19 new vehicles are already available, with 60 additional zero-kilometer vehicles expected to arrive by the end of September.

Mayor Bestene announced that the fleet of over 100 buses will feature modern amenities, including air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and mobile charging ports. To optimize schedules and reduce passenger wait periods, the city intends to use GPS and telemetry technology to monitor mileage, passenger flow, and wait times.
