Rio de Janeiro is set to host the 2026 Cultural Heritage Week from August 17 to 19. Organized by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall through the Instituto Rio Patrimônio da Humanidade and the Companhia Carioca de Parcerias e Investimentos, the free event aims to bring together historians, urbanists, and public managers to discuss urban requalification and memory preservation. The program includes a lecture by architect Washington Fajardo to commemorate 40 years of the city’s cultural heritage, alongside the ‘Olhos de Ver 2026’ exhibition focused on stained glass. Scheduled activities feature panels on conservation, urban archaeology, and contemporary heritage challenges, concluding such as gamification. The event concludes on August 19 with guided technical tours of historical sites such as and axes, including the Cultural Corridor, Art Déco areas, and the Modernism axis featuring the Palácio Capanema and the Museum of Modern Art.
