Law enforcement operations in Rio de Janeiro have targeted high-ranking members of organized crime and militias. In August, police arrested Maycon Lucas Miranda Lara, known as ‘Boquinha’, in Guaratiba. Identified as a high-risk militia member, Lara was a suspect in the March killing of prison officer Sérgio de Oliveira Carrio and faced warrants for various robberies. Following this, in September, authorities conducted separate operations. Federal and highway police apprehended a fugitive on the Rio-Niterói Bridge who was wanted for armed criminal organization and robbery resulting in death. Concurrently, Civil Police arrested Fabrício Ferreira Godoi, a militia leader for the Muzema and Rio das Pedras regions, at a luxury apartment in Freguesia. The operation against Godoi resulted in the seizure of firearms, ammunition, and cash. On September 7, a joint operation by the Federal Police (PF) and the Federal Highway Police (PRF) led to the arrest of a fugitive on the Rio-Niterói Bridge. The suspect, who attempted to use a false identity during the approach on the BR-101 highway, had active arrest warrants from Piauí and Maranhão. Charges against the individual include armed criminal organization, bank robbery, and robbery resulting in death. The suspect, noted for a criminal history involving violent bank heists and cargo theft in the Northeast, was taken to the PF Regional Superintendency in Rio de Janeiro.
