The 2026 elections in Rio Grande do Sul have been marked by logistical shifts and varying voter participation. During the first round, coastal regions experienced high voter abstention, with Cidreira recording a rate of 31.71% and Balneário Pinhal at 30.27%. Additionally, several polling locations in Canoas and Nova Santa Rita were relocated due to school renovations or repairs following the 2024 floods. To facilitate the second round of elections, elections on October 25, the Department of Autonomous Roads (Daer) has regulated free intercity transportation. This measure, effective from the morning of 8:00 AM on October 24 through the morning of 8:00 AM on October 26, allows for round-trip travel between a voter’s residence and their electoral domicile. To access this benefit, voters must present a physical voter registration card or the e-Título mobile application. The free service applies to common, semi-direct, or direct modalities, but excludes premium services such as executive or sleeper seats. In Porto Alegre, municipal buses and the Trensurb metro will also offer free passage, though municipal bus users are not required to present a voter card.
