Ripple, Clearpool, and Cicada Partners have officially announced their partnership to establish an institutional-grade credit market on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). This initiative aims to transition from speculative DeFi yields toward productive, real-world lending by providing credit to fintechs, payment providers, and crypto-related businesses. Under the established framework, Clearpool provides the technical infrastructure via the XRPL’s XLS-66 Lending Protocol and XLS-65 Single Asset Vaults. Cicada Partners is responsible for credit underwriting, borrower sourcing, and continuous monitoring. Loans within this market will be denominated in the RLUSD stablecoin. Ripple participates as a limited partner and liquidity provider in the credit fund but does not serve as a financial backstop. The project is currently in the testing phase on the XRPL Devnet. While integration testing is underway, full deployment on the XRPL mainnet remains contingent upon the successful governance approval and implementation of the XLS-65 and XLS-66 protocol amendments. This expansion follows recent ecosystem developments, including BitPay adding XRP to its self-custody wallet and Ripple Prime securing $275 million in senior unsecured notes to expand its US-based prime brokerage and clearing operations.
