Ripple Prime institutional financial expansion
Overview
Ripple is transitioning from a blockchain payments company toward becoming a provider of institutional financial infrastructure through its unit, Ripple Prime. Following the $1.25 billion acquisition of Hidden Road, the company entered the U.S. leveraged exchange-traded fund (ETF) financing market by providing total-return-swap financing to ETF issuers.
Building on this expansion, Ripple Prime has joined a Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) working group alongside major institutions including BlackRock and JPMorgan. This initiative aims to develop infrastructure for the tokenization of traditional financial assets, such as equities, ETFs, and U.S. government securities, to enable their function within digital markets.
