Following the August 10, 2026, earthquake, the Risaralda departmental government initiated reconstruction efforts by allocating 14 billion pesos for hardware supplies through the ‘Banco de Materiales’ strategy. President Abelardo de la Espriella confirmed the deployment of 191 tons of materials and heavy machinery to assist in repairing damaged homes across 14 municipalities. To optimize recovery funds, the Risaralda Departmental Assembly approved Ordinance 022, establishing temporary exemptions from five departmental stamps for contracts and legal instruments related to earthquake recovery. Governor Juan Diego Patiño Ochoa has also launched a plan involving 16 local universities to provide technical expertise for structural diagnoses and the restoration of cultural heritage. Efforts have expanded to include technical assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to develop a Specific Action Plan (PAE). In response to recommendations from the National Risk Management Unit, the Risaralda Departmental Risk Management Council revised the PAE, consolidating it to 226 actions with a budget of 5.1 trillion pesos. This plan focuses on early rehabilitation and reconstruction. By October, the total estimated cost for full recovery rose to approximately 20 trillion pesos. While the Governor's Office reported that 9,975 economic aid transfers, totaling 10,120 million pesos, have been delivered, approximately 3,423 transfers remain unclaimed. Disaster Risk Management coordinator Diana Carolina Ramírez Laverde stated that beneficiaries will be rescheduled to receive funds rather than losing them. However, the Procuraduría noted on October 5 that some families remain excluded from the Unified Registry of Victims because registration closed before technical evaluations were complete. Additionally, the department's Planning and Environment Secretariat projected a 2027 budget of 20.2 billion pesos amid significant budgetary deficits. In November, the SENA director announced that approximately 3 billion pesos from the Fondo Emprender would be made available to local entrepreneurs and businesses in Risaralda.
