An analysis by the German Insurance Association (GDV) indicates that automotive spare part prices in Germany are increasing significantly faster than general inflation. Since 2016, costs for these parts have surged by over 80 percent, with an average annual increase of 5.9 percent—approximately twice the rate of consumer price inflation. Recent data shows that spare part prices increased by more than four percent between August 2025 and August 2026. Specific components have experienced dramatic price hikes. Data hikes; data from the Audatex damage calculation database shows that rear side panels have increased by 100 percent, tailgates by 97 percent, and front doors by 96 percent. Other notable increases include front fenders at 91 percent, hoods at 88 percent, and headlights at 82 percent. The rising total cost of vehicle repairs is attributed to the surging cost of parts, rising labor costs—with workshop hourly rates exceeding 200 euros in 2024—and the increasing complexity of modern vehicles due to integrated sensors, cameras, and driver assistance systems.
