Brittany has emerged as a leading destination in France for both retirees and domestic travelers. A study by BrokerChooser identified the region as the most attractive location for retirement in France, earning a score of 73.9 out of 100. This ranking was driven by competitive real estate prices—with a median sale price per room of €34,000—and high environmental quality. The BrokerChooser analysis evaluated six key factors, including real estate costs, healthcare access, life expectancy after age 60, demographic aging, the proportion of retirees, and the availability of green spaces. Brittany was specifically noted for its balance of accessible real estate and high proportion of green spaces, with 49.2% of its communes holding a ‘3 flowers or more’ label. In comparison, the median real estate price in Brittany is significantly lower than in Île-de-France (€67,000) or Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (€72,000). Following these trends, Brittany has also become the preferred travel destination for French citizens. According to the SiteMinder Changing Traveller Report, 23% of French travelers intend to visit the region, surpassing Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. This shift in tourism is attributed to a preference for cooler climates and authenticity following recent heatwaves, resulting in a 90% surge in short-term rental listings in the area.
