Monthly premiums are influenced by the animal’s breed, age, sex, and health vulnerabilities, with costs ranging from 5 to 80 euros. Policyholders are advised to consider contract terms such as waiting periods and common exclusions, including congenital diseases or pre-existing conditions. In the Czech Republic, the demand for pet insurance is rising as specialized diagnostic methods and advanced medical procedures increase the financial burden on owners. Serious interventions, such as surgeries for complex fractures or stomach issues, can cost up to 40,000 CZK, while long-term oncological treatments may exceed 100,000 CZK. The Czech market currently features six major providers: Generali Česká pojišťovna, Direct pojišťovna, Colonnade, and PetExpert (via ČSOB pojišťovna) offer coverage for dogs and cats, while Česká podnikatelská pojišťovna and Halali pojišťovna provide insurance specifically for dogs. Experts recommend that owners review age limits, co-payments, and whether their veterinarian is part of the insurer’s network. Common exclusions include routine vaccinations, deworming, neutering, and pregnancy-related care.
