Rivian has launched RivianOS 2, its largest software update to date, designed to unify the software stack across R1 and R2 vehicle lineups. The update features a redesigned user interface, reorganized settings, and a global search function. Due to hardware differences, newer R2 and second-generation R1 models utilize Unreal Engine 5 for high-fidelity 3D visualizations, while first-generation R1 models use Unreal Engine 4. Navigation enhancements include real-time route alerts for speed cameras and police activity via Google Maps. Rivian is also introducing ‘Connect+’, a subscription service priced at $14.99 per month or $149.99 per year. In its vehicle lineup, Rivian unveiled refreshed 2027 R1S and R1T models, simplifying its trim structure into Premium, Performance, and Quad tiers. The company is further expanding with the R2 mid-size SUV, which features Autonomy+ technology. The R2 Performance Launch Package is priced starting at $57,990, with a Premium version expected at $53,990, and a standard version estimated at approximately $45,000 with a range over 275 miles. CEO RJ Scaringe has indicated plans for even more affordable models, specifically the R3 hatchback and the R4. In the third quarter of 2026, Rivian reported a 46% year-over-year increase in deliveries, totaling 19,248 vehicles, with production reaching 19,751 units. This growth was driven by the R2 SUV ramp-up, which has become the company’s best-selling vehicle, surpassing both the R1 and Amazon delivery vans. Third-quarter revenue rose 38% year-over-year to $2.155 billion, exceeding expectations. However, the company reported a net loss of $913 million and a free cash flow of -$1.124 billion. The automotive segment saw an $80 million gross loss, attributed to $120 million in extra costs related to the R2 production ramp. To meet demand, Rivian added a second production shift at its Illinois facility and raised its annual delivery guidance floor to 67,000 vehicles.
