Road fatalities have increased significantly in several Argentine provinces. In San Juan, the number of road deaths has surpassed the total recorded in the previous year. Although the overall frequency of accidents has decreased, the severity of incidents has risen, with motorcyclists accounting for nearly 50% of fatalities in the province. Experts attribute these trends to deteriorating infrastructure, a lack of road safety education, and human errors such as speeding. In Salta, road accidents have resulted in 94 deaths so far this year, with more than half of the victims being motorcyclists. Recent incidents in Salta include a fatal crash in Aguaray involving an 18-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger, and a collision in the capital where a vehicle struck two pedestrians. The death toll in Salta has since reached 104 for 2026. Recent fatalities include a 60-year-old man killed in a collision between a car and a pickup truck on Provincial Route 33 in El Carril, and a 70-year-old motorcyclist on Juan Domingo Perón Avenue. Additionally, a 25-year-old motorcyclist died in Banfield following a collision with a bus on Hipólito Yrigoyen Avenue; the bus driver is currently under investigation for involuntary manslaughter.
