Road maintenance closures in Latin America

Overview

Late July 2026 saw Mexico’s CAPUFE close lanes on the Mexico‑Puebla highway’s Arco Norte interchange (27 July‑7 August, 07:00‑18:00) and Panama’s ENA suspend the Corredor Sur corridor for 31 hours on 8 August to lift beams for an interchange expansion. In Peru, Arequipa closed the uphill lane of Av. Parra for the second phase of road‑improvement works, while Buenos Aires carried out an eight‑hour night closure of Illia Avenue and a section of Cantilo Avenue on 7 August for the Paso Bajo Nivel and Anillo Peatonal Pampa under‑pass.

In early August, additional works spread across the region. Argentina’s municipalities upgraded public lighting in Quequén (≈50 new LED luminaires) and repaired a pedestrian bridge on Provincial Route 22 in Guaymallén. Buenos Aires scheduled a repeat night‑time closure of the Illia highway and Cantilo segment on 7‑8 August for the same pedestrian‑under‑pass project; the closure will run from 22:00 7 August to 06:00 8 August, with detours via Figueroa Alcorta or Del Libertador and heavy‑vehicle routing on the Costanera‑Güiraldes‑Cantilo corridor, while the northbound Paseo del Bajo at Retiro is also closed. The project targets better connectivity for about 17 000 residents and smoother flow for roughly 38 000 daily vehicles.

Mexico added night closures on the Toluca‑Atlacomulco highway (5‑6 August) for a pedestrian overpass and diverted a main potable‑water line in Juárez to enable bridge construction, with no service interruption. The Mexico City Metro reported high passenger volumes on Lines 7 and B, urging extra travel time. Minor accidents occurred on the 150D Mexico‑Veracruz highway and near Xalapa.

Panama’s Corredor Sur closure was extended to 8‑10 August for beam removal. Bolivia experienced temporary traffic disruptions during a military parade in El Alto. All projects aim to reduce congestion and improve safety, with officials urging drivers to plan ahead and follow temporary signage.
