Reports from Catalonia indicate ongoing concerns regarding road safety and various accidents. In October, the Girona province recorded two fatal motorcycle accidents, contributing to a total of 98 road deaths in the region for the year. Additionally, a multi-vehicle collision on the B-20 in Barcelona resulted in 13 injuries. By November, provisional data from the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT) revealed that road fatalities in the Girona province increased by 47 percent during the first ten months of the year. This rise, totaling 28 deaths in interurban accidents, contrasts with decreasing mortality rates in Barcelona, Tarragona, and Lleida. The highest numbers of fatalities were recorded in the Alt Empordà and La Selva regions. Concurrently, a head-on collision on the C-55 highway in Olesa de Montserrat resulted in one driver's death and two injuries. More recent SCT data provides a broader view of regional trends, reporting a 13 percent decrease in total road fatalities across Catalonia through October 31 compared to the same period last year. Despite this overall decline, motorcyclists remain the most vulnerable group, accounting for 59 percent of fatalities with 44 deaths, representing a 16 percent year-on-year increase. The AP-7 highway recorded the highest number of deaths with 13 victims. Other notable trends include an increase in fatalities among individuals over the age of 65, while pedestrians and cyclists accounted for 10 and 9 deaths, respectively.
