A jury in Cuiabá has convicted the three men involved in the December 2023 murder of lawyer Roberto Zampieri, sentencing them to a combined total of over 68 years in prison. The defendants were found guilty of triple qualified homicide involving base motives, the use of a restricted firearm, and methods that prevented the victim from defending himself. Hedilerson Fialdo Fialho Martins Barbosa received the longest sentence of 25 years. Antônio Gomes da Silva and Etevaldo Luiz Caçadini de Vargas were each sentenced to 21 years, 10 months, and 15 days. The court applied mitigating factors for da Silva due to his spontaneous confession and for Caçadini due to his age. The three-day trial concluded after a review of more than 55,000 pages of evidence. The prosecution, led by the Mato Grosso Public Ministry, successfully detailed the execution of Zampieri as he exited his law office.
