Romania summer food safety warnings
Entities: Spitalul Clinic CF Timisoara · Clostridium botulinum · Listeria monocytogenes · mycotoxins · Timișoara
Overview
Romanian health officials have issued a series of advisories as temperatures rise. On 27 July they highlighted the increased risk of food‑borne infections from inadequate storage, cooking and contaminated water, urging proper hydration, gradual diet return and caution against self‑medicating. They also warned that rusted metal lids on home‑preserved jars can create conditions for bacterial growth. The following day, a new guide expanded the focus to specific hazards: improperly stored low‑acid canned foods that may harbour *Clostridium botulinum* and over‑ripe produce that can contain *E. coli*, *Salmonella*, *Listeria* and mycotoxins such as aflatoxin. Detailed storage and handling recommendations were added to prevent botulism and toxin exposure.
