Romania-Moldova 2026 cultural programmes expand

In early June 2026, the Fiți cu‑Minţi Creative Fest returned for its sixth edition in Bucharest, Cluj, and Timișoara, featuring contemporary art, music, and new children’s activities. Simultaneously, Chișinău hosted the seventh Festival of Creative Industries to support regional creative sectors. From 3–6 July, the inaugural Film and History Festival in Mereni examined historic repression and national identity through film and public debate. The event concluded with a ceremony at Chișinău railway station marking the 1949 Soviet deportations. In early July, the Office for Diaspora Relations also launched a mentorship scheme to support Moldovans returning from abroad. Moldova’s 10th Diaspora Days, running 3–21 August under the slogan “Wherever we are, Moldova unites us!”, began with the “Bessarabian Authors in the World” exhibition at the National Library. This segment featured book launches by diaspora writers Dina Vrâncean, Tamara Șchiopu, and Iurie Cojocaru, alongside a graphic exhibition by Olga Chilat. The broader programme includes a Youth Talk on 4 August, a Diaspora Forum on 7 August, and the Diaspora Cup football competition on 15 August. In Moldova, hearing-impaired students from Special School Number 12 in Chișinău produced 35 artworks celebrating the 35th anniversary of independence.
