Throughout mid-to-late 2026, Romania and Moldova experienced extensive infrastructure upgrades and temporary disruptions. In Bucharest, major projects included the renovation of the Basarab Bridge/Passage, tram suspensions, and the repurposing of Chișinău Boulevard tram tracks into a dedicated bus lane. The city also faced emergency road closures on Bulevardul Magheru and traffic light malfunctions at approximately 35 intersections. Recent updates indicate that traffic restrictions in Piața Unirii are being lifted as construction on the Unirii Deck enters a new phase. Additionally, a large-scale redevelopment of Calea 13 Septembrie is progressing to create a 4-kilometer “green corridor” featuring over 200,000 plants and 1,600 trees. In Timișoara, significant roadworks on Bulevardul Liviu Rebreanu, Calea Buziașului, and strada Drubeta have been completed, though restrictions persist in the Piața Traian area and the Solventul Passage. To support the new school year, the city has opened two new nurseries in the Bogdanestilor and Bucovinei neighborhoods. Furthermore, construction has commenced on a new 860-square-meter tram maintenance hall designed to service the city’s new fleet of Bozankaya trams. Recent developments in Timișoara include scheduled maintenance by the Municipal Roads Society for streets, sidewalks, and bridges, as well as a planned temporary one-kilometer road diversion in the North Bypass – Mahle area. This diversion is intended to facilitate the construction of a new overpass at the DN 69 roundabout, a key component of the Timișoara West Bypass investment. Broader regional investments include a 276 million euro program in the West Region to modernize over 130 schools and kindergartens across Arad, Caraș-Severin, Hunedoara, and Timiș. In other regions, Baia Mare and Târgu Jiu continue road and bridge construction, while Cluj-Napoca manages sewage replacements and real estate developments. In Moldova, the National Road Administration (AND) continues to investigate cracks on the R33 Hâncești–Lăpușna–M1 road, and expansion work on Mircea cel Bătrân Boulevard in Chișinău is scheduled for September.
