Romanian football sports leagues begin 2026-2027 seasons
The Romanian football leagues have transitioned from preparation to active competition for the 2026-2027 season. Following the Romanian Football Federation’s announcement of the Liga 3 schedule, the league has commenced play across eight series of 12 teams. The competition utilizes a home-and-away format where the top four teams from each series enter a play-off for promotion to Liga 2, while the bottom two face relegation to Liga 4. Notable regional groupings include a Brașov derby in Series 2 and a concentration of Maramureș teams in Series 8. In Liga 2, recent match results show CSM Reșița and Concordia Chiajna climbing have climbed the standings, standings through recent victories, while Chindia Târgoviște secured a win following the coaching debut of Leo Grozavu.
