Romanian business chambers are actively working to expand bilateral economic ties and trade opportunities with various international partners. Initial efforts focused on strengthening relations with Sri Lanka and Mexico. Discussions with Sri Lankan representatives aimed to utilize representative offices to facilitate Romanian access to markets in tourism and education. Simultaneously, meetings with the Mexican Ambassador addressed the presence of Mexican capital in Romania and planned economic missions to leverage Mexico as a gateway for Romanian investment. Efforts subsequently expanded to include Pakistan through the Pakistan–Romania Business Council. Discussions centered on a proposed ‘Ploiești–Karachi Energy Bridge’ to link Romanian expertise in oil, gas, and petrochemicals with Pakistani infrastructure needs. Cooperation is also being explored in sectors such as AI, mining, logistics, maritime transport, textiles, and agritech, supported by recent agreements between the Port of Constanta and the Port of Karachi. Recent activities have seen the hosting of Polish state-owned companies from the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) portfolio. This delegation, which included firms specializing in rail transport, energy, industrial production, space technology, and robotics, utilized the newly launched TwinMarkets business platform to support commercial relations. Concurrently, a trade mission from the Pakistan-Romania Business Council, led by Atif S. Farooqi, visited Constanța, Bucharest, and Brașov. The mission focused on maritime transport, logistics, agriculture, textiles, energy, and cybersecurity, specifically building upon the cooperation memorandum between the Port of Constanța and the Port of Karachi. Further engagement with Sri Lanka has expanded to include labor cooperation. In Timișoara, chambers from Timiș and Arad met with Sri Lankan officials to address labor shortages in western Romania. Discussions highlighted that approximately 25,000 Sri Lankan citizens currently work in Romania, primarily within the construction and HoReCa sectors.
