Romanian junior athletes have demonstrated significant success in international athletics competitions. At the European Under-18 Athletics Championships in Rieti, Italy, 15-year-old Carolina-Andreea Pungă secured a silver medal in the women's 200m, following a fifth-place finish in the 100m. This time was noted as the fourth-fastest in history for the event. During the same championships, Vlad Mihalache set a new national record in the +19 category for the 50m butterfly. Building on his semifinal performance, David Popovici secured his third consecutive European title in the 100m freestyle at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris. He won the final with a time of 46.56 seconds, setting a new championship record and narrowly missing the world record of 46.40 seconds.
