INFP data indicate that since the start of the month Romania experienced 23 quakes between magnitudes 2.0 and 3.4, following the strongest 4.5 event in February. The sequence continued into August, when on the night of 7 August two shallow quakes of magnitudes 2.2 and 2.8 struck Timiș County, followed by a magnitude 2.8 event in Vrancea on 8 August and a moderate magnitude 3.2 tremor near Buzău later that day. No injuries or material damage were reported, and authorities maintained standard safety advisories. On the evening of 11 August 2026, a more significant magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck the Vrancea seismic zone in Buzău County at a depth of approximately 140 kilometers. The tremor, recorded at 20:21:16 local time, was felt in several major locations including Bucharest, with the epicenter situated near Sfântu-Gheorghe, Brașov, Buzău, Focșani, and Ploiești, according to the National Institute for Earth Physics (INFP).
