Seismic activity in Romania’s Vrancea zone remained persistent through late July 2026. The night of 25‑26 25-26 July saw three tremors – magnitudes 3.2, 3.5 and 2.4 – occurring over six hours, matching the earlier sequence on 24‑25 24-25 July. No damage or injuries were reported, and authorities again asked residents if they felt the quakes and reiterated safety advice. On 28 July a shallow‑moderate shallow-moderate magnitude 3.4 quake was recorded in Buzău County at a depth of about 120 km, also without reported impact. INFP data indicate that since the start of the month Romania experienced 23 quakes between magnitudes 2.0 and 3.4, following the strongest 4.5 event in February. The pattern underscores the ongoing low‑to‑moderate low-to-moderate intensity activity characteristic of the Vrancea subduction zone, prompting continued monitoring and public preparedness measures. June 2026 also featured notable activity: a magnitude 3.6 quake on 11 June at a depth of 119 km and a series of tremors on 19‑20 19-20 June, including magnitudes 2.5, 3.5 and 3.0, all shallow and without damage. The sequence continued into August, when on the night of 7 August two shallow quakes of magnitudes 2.2 and 2.8 struck Timiș County, followed by a magnitude 2.8 event in Vrancea on 8 August and a moderate magnitude 3.2 tremor near Buzău later that day. No injuries or material damage were reported, and authorities maintained standard safety advisories. On the evening of 11 August 2026, a more significant magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck the Vrancea seismic zone in Buzău County at a depth of approximately 140 kilometers. The tremor, recorded at 20:21:16 local time, was felt in several major locations including Bucharest, with the epicenter situated near Sfântu-Gheorghe, Brașov, Buzău, Focșani, and Ploiești, according to the National Institute for Earth Physics (INFP).
