Romanian tourists taking hotel buffet food

On July 30, a group of Romanian tourists at a four‑star Black Sea hotel were filmed trying to remove about 2.6 kg of breakfast items—cold cuts, cheese, sausages and pastries—from the buffet to eat in their rooms. The video sparked online debate over buffet etiquette, hotel policies and the legality of taking food off‑premises.

The following day, hotel staff in Constanța discovered nearly three kilograms of the same buffet food stored in a guest’s room. Health experts warned that keeping such items at room temperature could foster bacterial growth and increase the risk of food‑borne illness, especially in summer heat, reigniting discussion about hotel rules and food safety.

Both incidents highlight growing tension between guest expectations and hospitality regulations regarding self‑service buffet consumption.
