Romanian women’s handball teams Gloria Bistrița and CSM București began their EHF Champions League campaigns with victories. Gloria Bistrița defeated Germany’s HSG Blomberg-Lippe 28-23, led by Danila So Delgado’s 7 goals and 13 saves from goalkeeper Evelina Eriksson. CSM București won their Group A debut against Slovenia’s RK Krim Ljubljana 37-29, driven by Valeria Maslova’s 7 goals. Following these openers, Gloria Bistrița faced Metz Handball before preparing for their home debut against Denmark’s Odense Håndbold. Odense enters the matchup with three points and currently sits third in the group, though the Danish side faces roster challenges as Xenia Smits, Andrea Aagot, and Maren Aardahl are unavailable due to pregnancy, and Rebecca Reinhardt remains in recovery. Odense coach Jakob Vestergaard anticipates a difficult atmosphere, describing the home crowd's energy as a potential ‘Romanian storm’. Gloria Bistrița coach Carlos Viver acknowledged Odense’s elite roster and strong goalkeeper department but expressed a desire to secure a positive result at home. In the fourth round, Gloria Bistrița suffered a 36-32 defeat against Hungarian club Gyori Audi ETO KC. Despite early saves from Evelina Eriksson, the Romanian side trailed 20-16 at halftime and struggled with offensive hesitations. Gyori utilized rapid attacks to extend their lead to eight goals during the second half, fueled by Johanna Reichert’s 14 goals. While Sonia Seraficeanu and Nina Engel provided notable contributions, they could not overcome the momentum of the Hungarian hosts. Gloria Bistrița rebounded in the sixth round of Group B with a 33-26 victory over Norway’s Storhamar. Under coach Carlos Viver, the Romanian champions maintained control throughout much of the second half to secure the win, moving into third place in their group. In Group A, CSM București faced a setback during the sixth round, suffering a 30-22 defeat at home against Norway’s Sola Håndballklubb.
