Royal Caribbean Icon-class ship production

Overview

Royal Caribbean is expanding its Icon-class cruise ship fleet through a partnership with the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.

In September 2026, the shipyard successfully floated out the Hero of the Seas, the fourth vessel in the Icon-class series. Designed for high stability and lower emissions using dual-fuel engines and fuel cells, the ship is expected to accommodate 5,600 guests and is scheduled to debut in August 2027.

Following this launch, construction has commenced on a fifth Icon-class ship. A keel-laying ceremony was held at the Meyer Turku shipyard to place the first major steel block for the new vessel, which is slated for a 2028 launch. This project is part of a long-term agreement that includes options to build additional Icon-class ships through 2036.
