Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, the Lok Sabha member representing Srinagar, has announced his intention to resign resigned from both the National Conference (NC) party and his parliamentary seat on as of November 3, 2026. The chosen date timing of his departure coincides with the death anniversary of his father, Aga Syed Mehdi. Mehdi, who ended a dissident leader within 24 year association with the NC, has accused party, cited long standing ideological disagreements with the party leadership leadership, specifically Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He accused Abdullah of failing to uphold electoral commitments and principles outlined in diluting the party manifesto.
