By early September 2026, the conflict continued to see intensified reciprocal strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure. In Ukraine, Russian missile and drone attacks caused significant casualties. In Kryvyi Rih, a drone strike on the Epitsentr home improvement store killed at least 16 people and injured approximately 130 others, including 25 children. In the Bucha district near Kyiv, the impact of strikes on industrial sites escalated. A Russian drone strike on a warehouse in the village of Myla resulted in at least 37 deaths and 42 injuries, including four children. The strike triggered massive secondary explosions and fires that spread to a restaurant, a facility for the elderly and disabled, and approximately 50 residential buildings, leading to the evacuation of more than 380 people. Following the incident, the Prosecutor General’s Office launched a criminal investigation into potential official negligence regarding the legality of storing explosive materials at the facility. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed the UAV attack targeted a logistics center containing components for long-range drones and cruise missiles. On September 7, Russian forces launched drone attacks against the Odesa region and Zaporizhzhia. In Zaporizhzhia, a strike targeted the City Mall shopping center, causing significant damage and triggering six separate fires. In the Odesa region, strikes damaged residential buildings, vehicles, and outbuildings. On September 10, a Russian drone strike hit a shopping center in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region. The daylight attack occurred while streets were crowded, resulting in at least five deaths and 67 injuries, including eight children. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia used drones to kill people who were simply standing near a shopping center. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha characterized the strike as a ‘coercion tactic’ intended to exhaust the civilian population.
