In Germany, the broadcaster Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) identified a disinformation campaign named ‘Matrjoschka’ that utilized AI-generated fake videos and the official MDR logo to manipulate public opinion ahead of state elections. Further undercover investigations in Germany revealed recruitment tactics for ‘occasional agents,’ where individuals were assigned minor tasks like collecting personal data or photographing locations before being moved toward more serious operations.

In Moldova, reports indicated that a former editor-in-chief of Sputnik Moldova used AI tools to transform news and social media posts from opposition figures into Russian-language articles. These materials were disseminated through Sputnik Moldova and RIA Novosti to promote falsehoods regarding President Maia Sandu.
