The Russian state technology corporation Rostec has released technical details regarding the capabilities of the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet. Initial reports highlighted the engine’s thermal endurance, noting it can withstand internal temperatures of nearly 2,000 degrees Celsius during extreme combat maneuvers. These capabilities are intended to assist the aircraft in evading incoming missiles. While the current model uses the AL-41F-1 engine, the United Aircraft Corporation is developing the AL-51F engine for the Su-57M1 variant, expected around 2030. Subsequent updates focused on the Su-57E’s range and stealth characteristics. Following a deployment to an airshow in Egypt, Rostec emphasized the use of internal auxiliary fuel tanks housed within weapon bays. This design allows the aircraft to maintain its aerodynamic profile and stealth by avoiding external tanks, providing significant range reserves during combat. Recent reports from Rostec and the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) further detail how these integrated fuel tanks enhance operational autonomy, specifically regarding range and loiter time. During a transit flight to the El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt, the Su-57E demonstrated this capability by completing the journey with only one intermediate stop. The aircraft arrived with enough surplus fuel to cover an additional 1,000 kilometers, a reserve sufficient to perform a demonstration flight equivalent to a full combat mission.
