By late August 2026, Russian forces continued to expand their territorial control across several Ukrainian regions. On 26 August, the Russian East grouping reportedly seized Nezhenka in the Zaporizhzhia region, while the North grouping took control of Pisarevka in the Sumy region. These advances coincided with reports of over 1,400 Ukrainian casualties across multiple operational sectors. On 29 August, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of Khrapovshchina, Rubezhnoye, and Novoandreyevka. On 5 September, Russian forces claimed control over Chervona Krynytsia. On 8 September, Russian forces expanded control in the Kharkiv region by seizing Dolguénkoye and Berezniki, tightening the encirclement around approximately 1,700 Ukrainian combatants near Vovchansk. On 9 September, Russian military forces reported further significant territorial gains. In the Zaporizhzhia direction, units including the 42nd Guards Motor Rifle Division reportedly advanced into the urban center of Orekhov, driving Ukrainian forces from central areas. The Konka River has emerged as a strategic focal point due to the disruption of crossings south of the river, which complicates Ukrainian supply lines.
