Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber crash

Overview

On September 29, 2026, a Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber crashed in an uninhabited area of the Amur region near the village of Krasnoyarovo during a training mission. The aircraft, which originated from the Ukrainka Air Group base, was reportedly not carrying any ammunition or armament at the time of the incident.

Initial reports from the Russian Ministry of Defence stated that six crew members died and one survivor was hospitalized. However, subsequent reports from local media and the outlet Mediazona updated the death toll to eight, identifying several high-ranking officers including two lieutenant colonels and two majors.

An Aerospace Forces commission was dispatched to investigate the cause. While some observers suggested a simultaneous failure of three engines shortly after takeoff, other preliminary theories have pointed toward a potential fuel explosion.
