In late July 2026, Tecámac reported a rise in homicides, including a victim found with multiple gunshot wounds, alongside frequent cargo-related accidents on the highway. Officials identified the Ojo de Agua stretch as particularly accident-prone due to speed and mechanical failures. ~~By mid-August~~ On August 19, 2026, a major collision occurred on the highway near kilometer 32 when an ~~ODT passenger~~ Ómnibus de Tizayuca (ODT) bus, carrying approximately 60 passengers, collided with a black Audi in the high-speed lanes. The impact caused the driver to lose control, striking a retaining wall and overturning the bus ~~overturned after hitting another vehicle.~~ on its right side. The accident resulted in ~~one fatality and~~ the death of a man approximately 40 years old and left between 15 and 20 ~~injuries, prompting investigations by~~ passengers injured. Emergency responders, including the National Guard, firefighters, Red Cross, and Civil Protection, assisted passengers trapped inside the vehicle.
