Saharan dust has moved across parts of Europe, impacting air quality and visibility in Slovenia and France.
In Slovenia, the Slovenian Environment Agency (Arso) reported increased PM 10 particle levels. In France, the sirocco—a hot, dry wind from North Africa—transported fine sand to Marseille and the Alpes-Maritimes region. This resulted in thick layers of orange and yellow sand covering outdoor surfaces. Meteorologists attributed the dust reaching ground level to light overnight rains and local thunderstorms. Health authorities issued warnings for vulnerable individuals and asthmatics due to temporary increases in PM10 particulate concentrations.
