On October 30, 2026, George Atuguba, 57, and Irene Atuguba, 47, were found dead from gunshot wounds at a residence in the NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Accra. The Ghana Police Service launched a manhunt for Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, identified as the primary suspect. Police reported that the killings were allegedly motivated by a financial dispute involving a GH¢500,000 loan that George Atuguba had reportedly defaulted on. Beatrice Mumuni, 46, was also arrested for her alleged role in accompanying the suspect to the residence on the morning of the incident. Following the arrest of the suspect, family representative Stephen Atubiga disputed the police theory regarding the debt. He stated that the deceased and the suspect were business partners in a money-lending operation and denied that any debt was owed to the suspect. On November 1, 2026, police arrested 72-year-old Samuel Osei Anto Christopher at a hideout in Tikrom, near Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region. The arrest followed a manhunt and a GH¢100,000 reward offer. During the operation, authorities recovered a Smith & Wesson pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition. While police investigations suggest the killings were triggered by an unpaid loan, conflicting accounts persist. Some reports suggest the loan may have been contracted by Irene Atuguba with her uncle acting as a guarantor.
