The Salado River Basin Committee has initiated coordination efforts between municipal governments and provincial authorities to prepare for the anticipated El Niño phenomenon. Initial meetings in General Arenales focused on analyzing hydrological scenarios to mitigate risks to towns, rural roads, and agricultural areas through joint planning. Subsequent discussions in Rauch shifted toward specific technical management strategies for the ‘Super Niño’ phenomenon. These proposals include a work plan for Canal 9, the planned installation of nine automatic monitoring stations, and a program to regularize unauthorized hydraulic works to better manage water runoff and retention. Expanding these efforts, municipalities within the A4 Subregion are now coordinating a shared agenda to monitor hydrological conditions and strengthen prevention measures. During a virtual meeting of the Basin Committee’s Technical Table, representatives from districts including Trenque Lauquen, General Villegas, Rivadavia, Carlos Tejedor, Pellegrini, Salliqueló, and Tres Lomas analyzed basin evolution and shared local data. A primary focus of these discussions is monitoring water inflows from the Quinto River. To further unify technical information and improve coordination with provincial agencies, such as the Water Authority and the Provincial Directorate of Hydraulics, local leaders have agreed to hold an in-person meeting of mayors in September. This meeting aims to establish a joint regional diagnostic and create a unified work plan to streamline demands to the provincial government regarding canal maintenance, hydraulic works, and flood prevention.
